One less roof

One less roof on the property as Todd came by with friends and jacks and other implements of destruction and hauled away the building formerly housing the local EPA pumping station -- on our front lawn. Now there's a large plot of raked dirt with a circular pipe heading 8 feet down...and a wooden cap on that, with an old rickety saw horse armed with yellow caution tape on top of that. We are not likely to win the House Beautiful Lawn of the Year award this year, alas.

Perhaps I should have taken photos of the stalwarts at work. Instead I was in Second Life and also working with Dreamweaver trying, yet again, to get another website in order. RSN, I hope.
I did some fix-up work on The SRM Online Catalog the other day... replacing the old "print your own catalog" with a pdf print-your-own and otherwise adjusting this-and-that.

By the way, it rains here. Su-prize! Ir not only rains here but it rains so hard that there's a green ball on my weather-warner: flood alert. Again. Through tomorrow evening.

I'm sure there was something else I wanted to mention ... perhaps it comes back to me later and I'll post.

For those following the adventure: no letters of reversion on the electronic books yet.

Meanwhile have been working with a couple programs allowing me to make movies in Second Life. Now I'll have to find an avatar to star in my first action flick... Wallace and Grommet you've got nothing to be concerned about, I betcha!

Okay, so if an avatar sees itself in a SecondLife movie, will it say "I always thought I was shorter?"

Hey, will your grip, best boy and so forth be union avatars or just any old avatar in a SecondLife storm? :-)

There's something recursive about movies of avatars . . . Almost like an Escher thing?

Consider -- this way you can do an anime equivalent ... while having the characters "draw themselves" once they've been designed/created. The SL world draws itself....

I've seen a couple nifty ones at
The Second Life media page (http://secondlife.com/community/media.php) that could play at a movie festival... my first attempt is a walk through of the "Sci-Fi in The Sky" lounge at Second Life Library...

Nice. Now you can do Liaden films without all those pesky creative control issues. I often think that writiers give too much away when they see the contracts. You end up with a film that has a passing connection with the book. So if you guys ever do sign a film deal, make sure you get to write the screen play and have input into any editing changes. (just my $.02).

Get away from weather

You can always go to Worldcon to get away from the weather. You could probably also get a face to face meeting with all the e-publishers you want your material.

What can I say?

We can't always go to WorldCon since it isn't this week, after all, and on top of that, we've just sold our memberships. The time involved (for us it would be two weeks) away from home -- plus the uncertaintly about the scheduling of the last stages of my mouth rebuild (already 9 months beyond the original schedule -- made this year's worldcon less than reasonable. In the meantime we'd really, really rather have the electronic books stuff settled well before mid-August.
