For the third convention/show in a row, the Lee & Miller traveling roadshow table has been the -- last thing seen on on local TV coverage of the event. Alas, each time we're in the closing shot with a general voice over about something else -- you may recall that closeups of several of our SRM and Baen titles were seen in the NASFIC coverage showing Glennis LeBlanc's table The Missing Volume table set-up, just at the end of that coverage.

In this case, we weren't interviewed on TV because we were busy with customers or fans every time the crew came our way, and then we were off at the panels, and so missed that run through. There's an extremely brief glimpse of Sharon's head as she's adjusting the table at about 9 seconds into the clip -- you'll have to trust me on that.  But, somewhere around 38 seconds into this coverage we can both be seen (about 4 seconds worth!) sitting behind the table with the Saltation cover and (for the cognoscenti) Hexapuma's favorite book displayed on the corner. Event promoter Gibran Graham kept things going smootjly and we were happily impressed with the Spectacular Event Center's crew and venue.

We had a great time all day, talked to some folks well familiar with our work and some who'd never heard of us -- one of the joys of a convention or show in Maine is that you end up with Canadian visitors -- and finished up in time to visit the nearby Mr. Paperback where we signed available Lee & Miller titles in a driveby fostered by info supplied by the Hetleys.

We're hoping to add BangPop to a regular schedule -- next year's early WorldCon ought to make that fairly easy for us.

Meanwhile, if you missed us in Bangor this week, maybe you can catch us in Augusta -- http://www.lithgow.lib.me.us/events/index.html  -- apparently several local papers have run a nice color photo and the full PR piece from the library -- like this:

We've had a hectic week or two given cat things (thanks for all those who have donated to the Liaden Universe trip jar to help defray Hexapuma's ear-polyp clearing operation -- he's doing much better now!) and now we are settling back into an almost normal catch-up mode.  In the midst of planning our upcoming Guest of Honor trips to Orlando and Naperville we just got word that Publishers Weekly has a no-discouraging words review of Saltation posted: http://tinyurl.com/pwlaudingsaltation -- you'll need to drop down to the fantasy and science fiction section to find it.

We're also starting to firm up some of the NASFIC planning -- watch this space for more info as that gels. And have you checked out our recently updated cover collection over on Facebook? That's at: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2039257&id=1385731027&l=bdab0db1d5

Some of you may recall that Hexapuma

has been in and out of the vets recently, and after some consultation with our local vet last week we needed to decide if Hex should see a specialist. I took him again to the local vet yesterday for a check-up and consult while Sharon was at work, and the vet immediately prepared and faxed information to the specialist in Portland -- where we are due tomorrow morning, very very early, about two hours from here, where Hex has an appointment with a surgeon. Our goal is to eliminate, if we can, the area of recurring infection which has had Hex on antibiotics and eardrops for much of his life. Hex has not been gaining weight the way a male Maine Coon cat should, and as happy as he is, his life ought to be less fraught with trips to the vet in the long run.

Our local vet admits to being reluctant to doing the drilling in cat-skull bone required to get to the problematic area, and the specialist vet's office is much better equipped -- for example, they have a staff anesthesiologist. Of course tomorrow's trip becomes ... interesting ... since the latest weather report is calling for six inches of snow here by the overnight ... and around nine inches or so by tomorrow morning in the Portland area.  The plan is for us to be up and out early, arrive in Portland, get Hex his X-rays and exam and if all is confirmed on film he'll be operated on tomorrow.

We're unsure of costs, too -- we won't know that until the specialist has an opportunity to see exactly what he has. I'm considering a special full color cover run of The Cat's Job -- with Hex on the cover! -- if this runs to match the cost of, say, Sharon's used Subaru.

Also: this is an add on for those who have been asking how they might help:

So there was an anomaly when I got up -- the overnight weather told me to expect a cold day today, but starting from a low in the teens.

Instead, when I got up the outside radio thermometer was reading 5.1, and by the time coffee was brewing it read 3.6 (this is F!) and now it is 2.2 ... but I wasn't sure of those temps so I took a *real* thermometer outside. You -- one with an expandable fluid in a glass tube (remember ancient history?) and that one tells me that at 7:00 AM the temperature on the deck right next to the house is 4 degrees F --that's with the thermometer having 5 minutes to adjust. The mini weather station thermometer is located away from the walls of the house and still says 2.2. Maybe next I ought to try two different liquid thermometers and *really calibrate* over a six hour span.

FWIW the current windchill in somewhat warmer Waterville is -6 so I'm guessing ours is -10.

In other morning news, our Maine Coon buddy Hexapuma is set for out-patient surgery this morning; he's been fussing at his ear and it turns out he's developed a polyp in the ear canal (something he did once before, alas) that needs to be taken care of soonest. Rolanni will be dropping the Hexacat off at the surgeon's when they open at 8:00. Good thoughts for the big guy, if you've got time ...
