Really,

this is a brief (or perhaps not so brief) reminder that Sharon's "clean out the file drawers" project we started with the auction of _Agent of Change_ continues over on EBay, this time around with  our original script of _Conflict of Honors_ up for grabs -- with this auction ending Friday afternoon at the unlikely time of 1 PM pacific time....

One of the interesting thigns about this book is that it was written before we'd sold _Agent of Change_, which means the original script still says it was by "Lee Miller"  .... Lee Miller was, you see, how we were going to avoid both the "girl cootie" problem and the "who really wrote this?" problem. Oh, you didn't know about that problem ... it has surfaced several times, most notably when Sharon was working for a newspaper and some of her colleagues (in speaking with each other) were heard to say that it was "really good that her husband let's Sharon put her name on his books"....

In this case, _Conflict of Honors_ started out as a short story Sharon was particularly interested in writing so she/we could explore Shan's strange person ... and it took us about 70000 words or so before we realized that you know, this may not be a short story, after all....

Sigh.  In any case that _Agent of Change_ manuscript we auctioned will, after taxes and eBay fees, cover our parking fees for WorldCon as well as gas to and fro, and we hope that _Conflict of Honors_ will help us cover the cat-sitting and a couple meals at the con.  We don't know how expensive it is to eat in Montreal, but we do recall the unexpected $200 dinner check for a quiet meal in a small, well recommended place in Toronto...

More later, perhaps ....

Almost everything takes more time than we want it to....

This morning I found the precious box and have now committed eBay on...

Silver plated brass 3rd edition Liaden Universe pins ... auction # 250141471061 ...

We are still recovering, in some ways, from my trip to Meisha Merlin. I had lots boxes to look through, and some of them were ... marked incorrectly... sigh. After doing nooks and crannies of all the boxes and envelopes and such, I found a dozen of those pins, so I'm listing them as Buy Now, so those of you who have not patience in auctions can move ahead and so we might be able to cut down on the leftover dental bills a bit faster.

I have another bundle of the Del Rey books to put up soon, perhaps today after I read the morning's work of the first 5th of Duainfey. This may be our last bundle of these early Liaden Universe books unless more fine fans send us copies they don't need to help support our unseemly habit of eating regularly. Also on the pile, new copies of a couple hard to find thingies...

After reading Duainfey's start I need to get on LUC#2 which is more behind than i knew. My salesperson at one printer left and records are ... not found. Blech!

Yesterday an undistinguished day at chess. I played no rated games whatsoever but gained points when an error in a previous rating chart was fixed. Go figure. I *really* need to work on my endgame since I let two clear wins get away in 10 minute games. I'm better than that, really.

This morning, it is gray outside, overcast and damp. Much better than a 95 degree blaze of dry air, I betcha.

Have you seen the stars tonight?

No? How about the space station? I went out last night figuring that the combination of the ISS with a new bigger solar cell wing and the docked shuttle ought to be bright and shiny object... and it was. Here's a link to go look for yourself....

http://spaceflight1.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/cities/skywatch.cgi?country=United+States

please, let me know if you've seen it.

And for the record, how many of you know how many people are in orbit around the earth right now? Can you name more than two?

BTW, next time I'm going to take my binoculars. Am wondering ... what kind of a photo might I get of the ISS from ground level (137 feet above sea level)... Should I get a camera for my "backyard" NexStar telescope?

Thanks, everyone, for the tips on CS2. This week coming should see some major work, finally on the SRM projects that have been sitting not-so-quietly. Oddly enough, I'm going to have to buy another 10 ISBNs or so....

Next:

If you happen to have an email in the hopper to me today... it may be awhile getting answered. Not only are the usual things going on, like auctions I might be watching over on ebay: #250128438119 and #250128451809 .... but our ISP reports they'll be doing some nifty server updates over the next few days. Outages shouldn't be for more than a moment or two if at all... but then we now how that can go....

Chapter 19b needs work. Off I go.

OK, first the whim: I went to eBay and posted this bundled offer today:

First edition reading copies only Item number: 250126318652
=======

The first three Liaden Universe novels by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller: Agent of Change (1988), Conflict of Honors (1988), and Carpe Diem ( 1989) ... these are the titles that later made up Meisha Merlin's first Lee & Miller collection, Partners In Necessity. These are the hard-to-find but used to hard-used Del Rey mass market first editions, several with multiple used bookstore stamps. At the moment the books are unsigned but can be signed or personalized to your request. The spine on Agent of Change is barely readable. If you must have one copy of everything Lee & Miller put out, this is one way to get started inexpensively. These books will make an oddly compelling addition to your collection, and you can get them directly from the authors.

======

Looks like it'll take an offer of $3.75 for us to break even, but what the heck, I hate to see books go unused!

Oh, the news? As posted several places about the web by now:

--------------
In house to be signed...

due to popular demand and with the help of Toni and our agent Jenn --
contracts for the Liaden Universe(R) chapbooks to be sold through
Webscription....

now, before you all jump Arnold and Toni about when...

we haven't yet uploaded all those files, we haven't yet written any
introductions, we haven't talked about titles/retitles/bundles ...
and as always, these things take time.
Heck, even the snail mail between here and there takes time...
