Time ... means something different to the folks at amazon.com. Really.

We've seen several different on-sale dates for Longeye in April (by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, if there was any doubt) ... and we find today that Amazon is apparently shipping the book, and this is March -- or has shipped it and needs more -- or .. .well, anyway, they are accepting reviews and folks are reporting that they're able to order it with nearterm delivery dates.

So, go thou and buy this book ... http://www.amazon.com/Longeye-Sharon-Lee/dp/1416591532
if you haven't already, and if you're on of those readers who hates to buy a book before knowing the next one is coming out --- this *is* the next one -- so buy this and Duainfey (which preceded it), both on sale at amazon and at your favorite genre shop or bookseller as well. Tell you friends to do the same thing .. .because it won't be long before we're pitching "next books" to Toni there at Baen, and it would be a *good thing* if these non-Liaden books showed strong so that the next Liaden contract(s) are well-supported.

Meanwhile, were you or someone you know at StellarCon? Got pictures of us there? We don't -- and we'd like to. True, we're waiting with bated breath for the Buzzy Multimedia interviews to get online, but before that happens, we'd still like some shots from the con if you have them to share.

There I was at 4:45 in the morning, with stars overhead... and a few small meteors in the span of my ten minutes or so spent absorbing the experience. The sky was slightly bland from the humidity of the dew, and probably from the dawn too, barely imminent.

Sounds in the distance, coyotes, owls, a truck zooming along very far away on the expressway, a car on the road from Albion to Winslow, some chirpy things that were probably birds. Thankfully, no cluck from the chickens our neighbor has imported to pollute the country sounds.

A sound from behind me as I stare up: Scrabble, jumping into the kitchen window. Usually I'll take her out for a turn on the deck a couple times a day, but rarely in the dark -- and not this morning. Scrabble is very cat, sometimes chases behind me through the open door ... or struggles from my arms. In the light I can find her easily.

Meanwhile, I dunno what was up. Neither of us could sleep once Mozart jumped off the bed and began proclaiming ... something ... in the kitchen. I thought he'd caught a mouse, so got up full of chase-the critter-down energy but apparently he just needed to say something. He...went back to sleep.

Or maybe it's the excitement, since this is the "official" pub date for Duainfey. Reallio trullio, this would be a good day for you to rush off to your favorite genre shop, big box store, or local indie and buy or order a couple copies. If you've done this already, let another friend or two know, or ask your library to get a copy in.

Duainfey .. by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller
# ISBN-10: 1416555528
# ISBN-13: 978-1416555520
$24

Apparently in stock in some Borders, at some Barnes & Noble, at Amazon, at Uncle Hugos, at Larry Smith Bookseller, also at Powell's, Books-A-Million, at Chapters, and soon to have signed copies at Mysterious Galaxy. We'd like to hear reports of sightings, too -- anyone seen one at a Waldenbooks? At Tattered Cover in Denver? Toadstool Books in New Hampshire? Constellation Books (the one in Reisterstown, MD.) ... and how about Little Professor? Or maybe Greetings and Readings? Really ...get us a list of who has it an we'll post it here as time permits....

Hehe -- a search at Wal*Mart online seems to indicate they *do not* carry Duainfey. Whoa, now that's a sign of book about magic gone bad, alright. Too bad for the big-squeaky clean.

FWIW, Duainfey's been bouncing around in the amazon rankings - we've seen it in the 2000s and in the 12000s in the last week, this morning it was 8023.

And now go, spread the word about Duainfey! -- there are writers in the world and they need crunchies for their cats!

We've got stuff in the works:

despite us both still hacking and coughing we're moving forward, Rolanni is under the watchful eye of Mozart in the living room as she works on the Fledgling polish, I'm currently without direct cat assistance as I look at the srmpublisher cafepress site, soon to be upgraded, and do some research on upcoming travel.

For example:
Johnny Rockets -- none in Maine, NH, or Vermont. So when we go to Albany... how close is the Crossgates Mall to AlbaCon or to Flights of Fantasy, where we'll be signing the Thursday before the con? Can we arrange for someone passing by to bring us a shake?

Safeway --- gah, so hard research determines the best oat bran flakes in America ... come from Safeway. But, there's not a Safeway within a bunch of states. None in the Albany area? Closest is in PA somewhere? Sigh. Yikes... we're going to need care packages!

Not a day lily day. There are two potential lilies left that I can see -- none of them looks ready in a day or so, and the other.. I'm not holding much hope for since the whole of it looks misshapen, as if it just had far too many days of rain to permit it regular growth.

When a book is now our day usually includes a check in at the amazon rating system and sometimes more ... one of the fascinating time-wasters that we can't *do* anything about but which draws the eye anyway. Today we saw the book starting off in the low 5000s again; right now in the 6900s ... well, we can ask that you tell your friends that Duainfey is out there, that it's a dark fantasy exploring the edges of Fey/Regency-style culture, and they can buy it now. The more people who get it before the official publication date of September 2, the more books will show up in the first reporting period for monthly bestseller lists... FWIW, hunting for bestseller nominations is something to do on a quiet Saturday.

Oh yes, we're working up a new Liaden Universe InfoDump .. could this really be #70 coming up? ... ought to be out in the next few days. We'll likely echo or include it on our blogs so if you read Journeyman or Eagles Over the Kennebec regularly you ought to be Ok; I also usually drop a copy in rec.arts.sf.announce in case you're still old fashioned enough to follow that.

Always expect a train

Before I forget:

robocalls on endangered list? At least some of them are ....
http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/31211?t51hb ... and notes on a movement to derail political robocalls. All those wasted electrons!

Yesterday the lily count was 7 ... haven't had my coffee yet nor glanced outside for a fresh count today yet.

The highest amazon ranking on Duainfey we saw was 9430 and I saw BN.com and 14370. Go readers! Several FoL report getting their books in the mail already! This morning's amazon rank right now is ... hey! 8261 ... we'll take it!

#1 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Authors, A-Z > ( L ) > Lee, Sharon
#1 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Authors, A-Z > ( M ) > Miller, Steve
#27 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Epic

Wait, did someone finally at amazon realize this is not a contemporary? Cool!

So yes, I did get to the PO yesterday. This does not mean I'm caught up. This also does not mean the house is free of coldish symptoms. Me, I'm buying stock in premium white facial tissue manufacturers, when I get my next bonus...

Partial Catch-up Time!

I had a great time in Denver but got weighed under when it came to reporting. Then, I sneezed my brains out, so I'll probably still miss stuff, but... random things I noticed or had thoughts on:

Denver Amtrak station -- help, you needz it. The great vault of a ceiling is very fancy and makes your PA speakers useless. The people shouting from floor level aren't an improvement. What you need to do is hang flags of all the states, or maybe flags of all the cities AMTRAK serves, from the ceiling to absorb some of that echo.

Denver 16th Street Mall: the thing really feels friendly and laid back until the the packs of bike-police in black come by, and then you wonder what's up. That SWAT look is *so* last century.

Denvention's Fan Hydration Device was very useful. *IS* very useful. TY!

I never got a good look at the art show at Denvention. Gah! Too busy for the artshow is *too* busy. Note to self: Must make time at Anticipation.

Question for readers -- we're looking for Safeway *store*. For argument sake let's say we live in the PO Box headquarters ... well, let's call it Waterville, ME, 04901 ... so is there a Safeway anywhere close to our route to, say, AlbaCon? There seems to be a Safeway listed in Bangor, but I think it is a ghost, or a potato-buying office.

September 2? OH well.... now see this --
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/1416555528/ref=dp_image_text_0?ie=UTF8&n=283155&s=books

Amazon.com is apparently busily shipping Duainfey, http://www.amazon.com/Duainfey-Sharon-Lee/dp/1416555528 --
which ought to gladden me mightily -- except I thought I had a couple more days to recover from the cold and get some PR things in train.

Pfui. Not only that, this will likely hurt the reporting for Locus and other sales lists since the expected "everything hitting in September effect" is now going to be spread across a couple months. Hah ... So much for planning ahead ....

BN.com may be selling Duainfey right now, too -- hard to say, what with the split personality of the "usually ships in 2-3 days" and the listed September publication date.

Reviews of Duainfey are coming in fast and furious, with LJ giving it a nice one (part of this bundle --http://www.libraryjournal.com/article/CA6586263.html?nid=3286)

lily count: 4

Oh. right.... Saltation was updated yesterday, more to follow within the next seven days...

I've had a number of birthday presents arrive today, not the least of which has been the greetings from LJ here and on other journals, and from various readers -- we have a rainy, gray day here, so cheer is good.

The most recent birthday present? Our author's copies for Duainfey arrived just ahead of a roaring thunderstorm -- entirely appropriate for the book. The cover is simply amazing in person. Even the spine is readable at 5 paces!

Dinner's next. Catch you all later.

First, an amendment:

These just in ... as in these 328 plus page-proof pages of Duainfey. On my plate for the next few days, yes.

Meanwhile, how do you guys do this? I mean, historically we've had a habit of rereading our previous books when getting ready to write the next one if there's been a break in the writing process ... and since we're contemplating the follow-on to Scout's Progress, which is sort of out-of-story sequence for us, I'm in line to reread ... um ...1.5 or 2 million words? Even at a leisurely book every other day that's a month! And we hear from some of you that you reread the series at least once a year... and have real jobs, too!
