Some things just shouldn't happen...

last week we ate a meal in our local Arby's -- and good meal it was, too. But... they were playing music from the fifities and sixties radio station or CD collection and we got the full bore rendition a bunch of old songs, including "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" ... which I haven't been able to get out of my head.

So, due to circumstances beyond my control I had a less than restful night last night, and at one point "Liberty Valance" popped into my thoughts and absolutely got stuck, around and around. In trying to exorcise it around 3:10 AM I cast my thoughts to other recent happenings and oooops! I got a few lines....

The Man Who Shot LAWyer WHITtington, he was the VP of us all....

When it came to ducking real damn fast, that Lawyer was no good....

and...

well, anyway, it was a start and it's apparent that I'm not asong writer or musician...and I have a novel and a short story due RSN. Now I'm going to put on some Bob Dylan music...

The BBC says you have an earworm. I was actually trying to find the methods for getting rid of such mental itches, but this is kind of interesting.

I think Steve's answer is the best - just rewrite the sucker as long as it's playing.

I find supreme irony in the fact that our beloved(?) VP was cited for not having a license to shoot birds, but shooting people is apparently not an infraction.
