I pre-ordered Crystal Soldier last week, and then received a message saying the shipment would be delayed since the publisher had "changed the release date".

As of this morning, B&N is telling me that my order for Crystal Soldier is scheduled to ship on March 30th :-(

I just checked my account at Amazon.com re shipping date for Crystal Soldier: they are still saying 2 to 3 weeks BUT your rank = 590 in books. Go you!!!
As brief answer to Sharon: Crystal Soldier makes me want to read Part 2 of the Duology. It is a definite stand alone to me because it starts a whole new way of looking at the universe THEN. To me Jela is the Sentient Tree's sidekick and loyal friend. Cantra is cool enough to honor and appreciate that bond. I keep reliving Jela's walk from one fallen tree to the next; as each succeeding tree shrinks, Jela's admiration rises. Having read all the other books, it IS nice to know that Jela and the Tree survive, but it isn't necessary info.
