I'm rather worried about "running into the eastern side of Birmingham" at high speed. Especially at the implied 5000mph that could get very messy. I don't think they've thought this through...

I think they;re really only looking at 250 MPH ... which ought to be doable by any simple technical civilization, right?

The passengers won't survive, didn't they prove scientifically that people would die at faster than 30mph or something? (But Brunel would have loved the idea.)

(I got the 5000mph by dividing the distance between the places by 5 minutes...)
