Physics 101 --

Dear  green van -- your gross vehicle weight: approx 5500 lbs. A Freightliner gwt is approx 100,000 lbs. The Freightliner was catching up to me when I scared the shit out of you by blowing my horn to stop you as you thought to complete your U-turn without looking. I was traveling in excess of 70 miles per hour and you were going to cross perpendicular to two lanes. Thanks for the finger. You need to wash you hands. The truck driver gave me a thumbs up when he went by... oh yeah, the snow-slicked roads would have made the energy transfer between truck grill and you more efficient. There's an award you qualify for, I betcha.

Momentum, gotta love it

About the only physics formula I can ever remember is 'momentum is mass * velocity' - I think demonstrating understanding of what it means should be a mandatory deal-breaking question for getting a drivers licence.

That is the type of situation where I go home and greet my family with "I didn't die today." The incidents almost always involve cars, and usually include an interesting story. Ack!

One of the best descriptions of momentum I've EVER read came from science fiction. Something about floating fast down a corridor in zero g --- it may
not feel fast but if you smack into the closed hatch at the end, it will HURT.

Congrats on not dying

The award that driver of the green van would have qualified for is the Darwin Award and while the human gene pool would probably not have missed him at all, we are certainly glad you and the Freightliner driver were preserved to us.
