I am, very accurately, the first passenger on the train today --- the front seat in the front car, and I'm typing this as we travel AMTRAK ... the WIFI is WORKING TODAY and I just stopped typing long enough to crane my head to the left and watch Old Orchard Beach go by...I even caught sight of our usual OOB haunts like The Skylark ...

This is a pretty ride, with trackside rivers showing rapids and ice-bubbles, and the tidal sea-reaches mazes of jumble-block ice overflown by sea-gulls.

At the moment we're going very slow as we head into a siding to allow another train to pass...and another AMTRAK Downeaster passes us going north. The trees around me are blowing heavily in the wind, I look down and across into a snowy bank that's edged by evergreens.

An interesting sight as we pull into the Saco train station -- the wind generator that powers the station is spinning merrily as i sip on the soda that come gratis with the ride in the first car...

More later -- time for lunch!

Isn't it great when technology works?
I hope you have as much fun at Boskone as I did,
back in college.

Now Baker & Taylor delivered several copies of
Duainfey today - withOUT embargo notes on the
packing list. They DID flag the other book that
comes out on the 24th (Kim Harrison's latest) but
not yours. In cases like this, I normally embargo
the book anyway until the street date. As a small publisher yourself, what would YOU prefer.

Speaking only for myself -- if you have them, and they're not embargoed, put 'em up and sell 'em.

And! As of this morning, Amazon.com is selling them. Put those puppies on the shelf, ma'am, and grab the wave.

as a publisher, I mostly don't ship until the book can be sold... the world is complicated enough... even if I am breaking a book at a con ... i do the debut, and then ship elsewhere ... in this case, independents ought to be able to sell if there are customers for what's on hand ... no reason to hold ours waiting for that big press blast to start the buzz... really!

Thanks for asking

I've been doing Boskone for some years now and usually do have a good time ... this acts as our home con for the most part, though some years we need to skip it or stint it because of other travel obs ...

I really like the new one big living room con arrangement here at the Westin, though the lack of walk-one-block restaurants irks me.
