So I've been moving things, and discover that we own several thousand book jackets for various titles: I Dare, Balance of Trade, Liaden Universe Companion, and more, I'm sure.

We got these in part because we published some of them and in part because our other publishers, seeing us active in the community and doing all kinds of wonderful PR.... sent them to us.

Thing is they:

1. are paper
2. are heavy
3. need to be moved

Anyone have any suggestions of what we should do with them? I mean, yes, some *have* been used tor replace the odd damaged book jacket. But there are thousands, altogether, and the are pretty and they were expensive to print and they ought to be used. Somehow.

Next, didja see the thing on SFSCOPE about Laura Underwood's project? http://sfscope.com/2008/10/an-open-letter-to-fans-of-drag.html Give it a read if you have time...

And now, onward.

I know some people in the past have sold replacement jackets or offered them free to people that needed jackets. You could take some to cons with you for freebies for fans. Especially if they are DJ from any overseas ones.

Typical selling price is $1 each for dust jackets (when there's no particular special value). I'd recommend selling them either in person (at cons), or only when a similar-sized book is purchased (the best way to ship dust jackets is on a book). Shipping them flat and protected is probably more effort than it's worth.

Are they still flat? Would any of your rabid fans (tm) want one framed as a poster?

Would it make sense to sell them on ebay?

In descending order of praticability:

Use them as premiums. Sign them and offer them as freebies if you order the newest book or chapbook, or the latest special, etc.

Or offer signed copies for $1 each plus shipping.

Or make a giant collage on the office wall.

World's largest bookmarks.

I've seen some awesome purses made from magazine pages and pictures. Wouldn't that just be the coolest fan item?

Yeah, I know, you guys are much too busy *writing* to make purses. (THANK GOODNESS!!!!) Apparently, I read much faster than you write. But it could be cool.......

If I sent you a stamped, addressed mailing tube and promised to send pics, could you maybe slip some my way?
