Right, right there it is -- another lucky fellow...

OK, I'm off to the city in a few minutes, and who knows, more progress may be made on several fronts... cross fingers.

I had a library trustee meeting last night that went overtime. Amazing how interesting the mechanics and necessities of book drops can be.

Anyhow, in between things the last few days I've been running a book or two behind Rolanni's pursuit of reading the whole of Girl Genius in perfect bound format ... yesterday I took the last of lunch as a break and finished book 7. Fannishly, I can't wait for Book 8. (Hurry up, gang!).

As time permits, more.

BOOK DROPS

Hope you see this; I am a few days behind looking at blogs.

If by any chance your library is considering a drive-by book drop as our newest branch put in, PLEASE tell them to consider ordinary compact sedans as well as SUVs and pickups when planning it. Our library has two drop bins, presumably so two cars in a row can use them, though I have never seen but one car there at a time. BOTH are at the SAME height, suitable for the convenience of the driver of a large, high SUV. I drive up in my little Toyota Camry, get as close to the wall as possible, undo my seatbelt, and s-t-r-e-t-c-h, and I can just barely get a book in. Stiffer or shorter patrons surely have to stop out away from the wall, open the door, exit the car, and deposit their books, negating all benefit of the drive-in.

Also a small awning over the drop is NOT sufficient in rain, or particularly in your state where blowing snow would be common. A full carport-roof would be needed.

Any such "convenience," walk-up or drive-by, must actually be convenient, or your patrons will be cursing the library's poor planning even as they are using it, diminishing their chances of voting for the next library-supporting bond election.
