We like to have our train tickets in hand before we head out for the station: an old habit. So today I ordered the tickets for our trip to Denvention, figuring that, with other convention in town that week and operatives moving in ahead of time for the Democratic Convention (which is in town a couple week after us), room on board might get tight.

So I went through with the deal and found space on-board... and discovered that AMTRAK will permit us to pick up the tickets at the station or ... they will charge us $15 for Express Mail delivery. Got to be someone here to sign for them -- Priority isn't good enough... sigh. I feel so secure.

I am not pleased. On the other hand I'm not driving 2200 miles (each way) in high summer just to object.

So far then: we have ordered tickets. We have reserved rooms. We have put in motion requests for party space. We're looking to have a Friends of Liad breakfast. We have each sent off a bio. We have made preliminary arrangements for cat sitter. We have each sent of a photo, we have begun planning what me might read since ... Duainfey will come out at the end of August (or early September) and not the beginning.

I was also going to start my walking tomorrow, so I'll be in decent shape for the Mile High City. On the other hand, there's snow in the forecast, so I did a short walk today, and rescued Santa Claus to boot.
==========================================

Amended to add: It looks like, given baggage limitations, that I may need volunteers to bring some items with them to Denvention. If you are going to be driving to the con
and might have room for a box or two around 10X18X11 or 12X12X10 (approximates)and under 30 lbs... let me know. Thx!

version 2

Webscriptions complicates that a bit

Don't forget that the ebook version of Duainfey will be mostly out by then, with the last bit coming out in mid-August.

That helps not one whit at selling real books to real people right now,to sign at a Worldcon. Signing and having books in hand is real important... and not being able to handle and sign them right now, at Worldcon means we have to figure out what we will read, right now, at Worldcon...

Truth - although even ebook folks might like a nice signed bookplate?

Hum - Dragontide, LUC 1 MM, or those James Hetley books? Ask Baen about getting a box of Duainfey for early release (I assume they'll actually have printed them, just be trickling through the distribution channels for most of August, but I don't really know how it works).

How about a special chapbook? I'll bet we could get folks to sign up, although getting it written and printed in 3 months would be tight . . .

Sorry, no good ideas, but I can sure thrash around.

One of the joys of WorldCon, historically, has been able to meet our readers ... and that will haeppen. We're signing up for signings, brewing up kaffecklatches and breakfasts, and ... doing what we can. There *should* be a fair amount of news by then, and a fair amount of relatively recent Lee & Miller stuff to go around ... but I like to read something new and available right now ...just me fussing.

Hum - there's this Saltation thing, of course. And the mysterious news about it may be revealed by then.

Or you could write a scene for the winter chapbook, and tease people with that ;->

Major regret that I will not be able to be there. I'm signed up as a supporter, though!

You plan on doing some hiking when you are out in Colorado? Or are you just wanting to be in better shape for walking around Denver?
Got to love the mountains.
Just thought of something, You guys ever been to the Tatter Covered books store? A cool bookstore in the 16th street mall.

We won't have much time to hike; but we do want to visit a couple carousels if we can. Just remember that my altitude as I sit here here is --according to my GPS -- 227 feet above sea level... and the ground level at the hotel, according to my Delorme, is about 5000 feet higher.

As for the Tattered Cover, we apparently *went to the wrong one" we are told... we went to one near the Amtrak station and later were told that that's "not the real one" ...

The 16th street mall is the one you want – some interesting shops in there too.
Have you ever been to a Cheesecake factory – love that place. They have a Mongolian barbeque that is ok, about a block off the mall.
And a trolley for you low-landers; it is actually pretty handy in the middle of winter.
