In passing we note that any of our email depending on servers formerly adelphia and now Roadrunner ... is stopped at the moment. Even the tech Sharon talked to said *his* email had gone down. So...patience. This is not a virtue I'm easy with, alas, so we'll see what gives.

There's a reason to get email via a competent company rather than your access provider.

YAPMV? Your Access Provider May Vary? Now where would you stick those electronic labels - I don't think I've seen a dealer's sticker on my modem?

Although one should also include YSIPMV, since Independent Service Providers are not all equal.

Well, yanno, if there was a choice...

That's my point. There is a choice.

I've been using my panix account for over a decade since I last used panix as a connectivity provider. I've switched among 3 or 4 different cable companies in that time (and they've tried to switch my email address around, but since I never use them I don't care).

I can switch access providers any time I want, with essentially no effort (plug a different box into a different hole in the wall).

My point is that we live in Maine. Does panix provide service in Maine? Pointer, please.

Panix will sell shell accounts anywhere. You have to get Internet access from someone who provides it locally.

Or, for cheapness, just get a gmail account.

Either way, you don't have to worry about RoadCrawler breaking your email. (If they break your Internet, you have to go to a $tarbux or something, and you can still get your email.)
