Advertent railfans and railroaders know that the maxim "always expect a train" is akin to "one hand for you and one hand for the ship" for mariners. It may sound simple, but it could save your life...

SO I give you:

with no info except that darn stalling on track trick again and ...

Have you ever considered that there might be some inherent property of railroad tracks that causes cars to stall while going across them? You hear so many stories of it happening, of people's cars choosing the one worst possible moment to stall. Maybe the trains are hungry for cars, and the tracks contain their version of paralytic venom.

Actually, yes, and I'd half-written a story about it years ago which I never finished .. but ought to ...proposing that train tracks sometimes generate their own dual current flow/magnetic field/pulse and that older vehicles in bad trim are so often victims because they are working with less than good flow/with bad wiring, etc...

I do note that people who stop to look both ways *while on the track* rather than before they cross it are statistically at risk compared to those who are actually underway when they cross...

At least "always expect a train" often works more or less according to the timetable in the UK. If one is expecting a bus it is more usual to wait for hours and then three come along together...

So the appropriate saying is "no one expects the English doubledecker?" It doesn't quite have the same spark as . . .

the Spanish Inquisition!

Alright, I'll prepare for the comfy chair. I'll be okay, just tell Mum that I thought about her, okay?
