So today I test electronics. The new cellphone gets a v weak signal here (today) if I stand out in the mixed rain and snow. i have made one phone call with it successfully. It charges and will travel with me.

I'm still looking for a name for... my newest linux machine. This eee pc weighs about 2 pounds soaking dry, comes with ethernet, wifi, and has a typable keyboard ...though I am accessorizing since the cute carrycase it comes with has no room for the power cord. Right now it sits next to this computer, playing WFUV, just because it can. So, this travels with me, too. Eventually I'll try out the Skype feature...

I saw earlier news that amazon.com is expected to unveil an e-book reader come Monday...they are calling it Kindle? Sigh.

So what's the eee like? I've been drooling ever since autopope first talked about them - what's the verdict?

I'm still of the opinion that Microsoft paid Palm not to sell the Foleo... it was wanting a Foleo that made me decide I'd try the ASUS. I also think MS paid ASUS to delay until there was a WIN version of the eee, not wanting folks to see another really cool linux makes it happen machine.

No real opinion so far: I have maybe two working hours on the machine. Let's see after this jaunt....

If you don't mind, a pointer to the one you actually bought?

I was just looking at the specs - it's an interesting alternative to the Nokia N810, for about the same price. It looks like they've got the same screen resolution. Form factor on the N810 is significantly smaller - I have my doubts about it as a good on-the-go writing platform, but 8 oz. vs. 7 lbs. is a ... significant difference.

It weighs 2 pounds, which is to say, exactly the same as the Aging and Sainted Sabu (http://www.alphasmart.com/products/popup_Dana_Details.html), with a much (much, much) nicer screen and more all-around functionality.

Oops. I somehow read 7", 2 pounds on one of the write-ups that I thought was it, and stored 7 pounds.
