Right ...

Fledgling chapter 24 -- some of you call this a "fix" -- got online around 11:48 this morning at 2800 words or so.

Today part of my job is packing stuff for SRM Publisher, part is renaming a kingdom/world splinter for Lee & Miller.

Are you going to plant a flag on it? And give a little speech about claiming this splinter for Lee & Miller? With the troops kneeling and the banners dancing in the wind?

We've lost something of the romance of claiming new lands, haven't we? Sad, that.

Maybe we could get the SCA to help out?

Things to leave out of the ceremony... blankets impregnated with measles & smallpox, parchment declarations telling everybody else who lives there that they don't own their land anymore, more parchment declarations telling them their belief systems are outlawed and treaties that aren't worth a pinch of spit, trading land for alcohol, tobacco, beads and axes...

What's the SCA? Is that anything like our "Federation of First Fleeters"?

Well, true, we don't need some of those little embellishments.

SCA - Society for Creative Anachronisms? In the US, they are the folks likely to be recreating various clothing styles, ceremonies, etc. And having a great deal of fun at it, too.
