Today I need to be elsewhere in many different directions. Post office, print shop, bookstore, another post office, Home Depot to replace a defective item, pick Rolanni up... and etc. Oh yeah, and gas station. Looking like a road trip in miniature...
I also need to come up with a word count for The Naming of Kinzel chapbook in the next few hours. Anyone got one with word count to hand? Me neither...
Last night, by the way, at the Waterville chess club I managed a tournament win against Jeff, one of the newer players to appear at the club, who fell victim to one of my very trappy openings, which is online here. I was playing black and had a very solid game after about 10 moves ... which meant I survived that move 7/move 8 loss of concentration I'd be showing earlier in the tournament. It probably helped that for the first time in a long time I'd had more than 5 or 6 hours sleep; Sunday night I just said "everything else can wait" and went to bed before 9 and slept straight through until 5:30 ayem...
After the tournament game I played John an outrageous series of club ladder ten minute games... which I think I came out ahead of. I know I did in one way -- there were at least a couple "draws in my favor", forced in positions I should have lost. Go me!
Then we moved to un-rated 5 minute games, which made us both look terrible but were a heck of a lot of fun. I do think John had the edge there, but he's been playing two minute games on the internet. So right, I know, a loss is a loss...
