I've only traveled amtrak once (Boston to Baltimore) but I liked it much better than flying. Coach class on amtrak had more leg room than even first class on some airlines.
Also, train stations are often in the middle of the city and more conveniently located to convention hotels than airports way out on the fringe of the city.
