Umm ... we've been lucky, for the most part. We tell people we don't mind what they think about, but we'd really prefer they not write Liaden fanfic, even for personal, private use. And we'll defend the copyright vigorously if anyone shares/publishes Liaden fanfic, since it's our canvas and we still have the rest of our lives left to play in it. The same is true of the trademark, which is why there's a trademark at all. We did have to shut down part of a game site at one point. Not fun, but they were warping the characters to the point of slander.
