because I put pre-sized book jackets on them. And I have a bookcase full of Baen Books that I've proofread behind me. All of the hardcovers are 9 1/2" tall. Other publishers I often buy are either 9 1/4" or 8 1/2". I stock those 3 sizes, as well as 8" to fudge smaller stuff and 10" & 12" to fudge larger stuff. The occasional 8 3/4' turns up too. And, no, I'm not a librarian.
