The venue and timing of Boskone hampers Valerie's natural desire to organize convention dining. There isn't anything all that close to the convention (and as you pointed out, cab rides only add to the expense), and even if there is, Valentine's Day is not an ideal time to get a reservation.
The Worldcon is where she really shines! She's already begun researching fine dining options in Montreal.
