Whee ...

yes, thank you guys for the birthday wishes in the FoL list, and private email, by US post office..., on other blogs, and etc. Best wishes are appreciated!

Meanwhile, day lily count is six. I think that's 15 on the year.

Remember Mozart's recent trip to the vet? This afternoon he goes back. Whatever we tried to get fixed last week has come back with a vengeance and we're more than a little concerned seeing we get out of there this weekend to go to Denver.

I did want to mention that 35 years ago, today, I'd have just about been awake at this hour in Seattle, and would arrive at the Clarion West workshop common room at 9:00 sharp .. .I think it was sharp, anyway. Which brings me around the the Clarion West Write-a-thon...
wherein I admit that although I've written about 10000 words during this 5 or 6 weeks... none of it was the project envisioned -- well maybe 600 words or so. Mostly I've been doing the last few Saltations and also bits and pieces of these other ideas which might just be the original project ... many of these ideas stem from the poll we did awhile back on what does near future mean to you .... SO:I mentioned this project here
http://kinzel.livejournal.com/195539.html but you can just go to http://www.clarionwest.org/events/writeathon/SteveMiller ... and please, look around... and if you like the idea of nurturing young writers you can use the forms on that page or you can send to

Clarion West
340 Fifteenth Avenue East, Suite 350
Seattle, WA 98112

and mention my name.

So far my name is on a few million words of published science fiction and fantasy, and we've got contracts in house to get another few hundred thousand words out there by 2010 -- and Clarion West helped me ... who knows who might be waiting in the wings?

Happy Birthday.

Hope that Mozart is OK, and they can uncover the problem and fix it once and for all.

Happy Birthday!

I've been thinking about you and [livejournal.com profile] rolanni a fair bit lately, 'cause I just started rereading all the Liaden books. Not that I'm impatient to read the rest of Saltation or anything...

I'm planning to post a review of Conflict of Honors in the next day or so and poke people to start their addiction there. To which end, I was wondering -- I'm really quite confused about the meisha merlin collapse aftermath -- is there still a way to buy all the original books (physical copy) in a way that gives you money?

Happy birthday. Hope for good trip to the Vet.

Well ...

we own some some physical copies of a bunch of the Meisha Merlin editions, but not copies of all of them. srmpublisher.com has the current catalog, more or less up-to-date; because we deal with some independent stores we also from time to time come up with "extras" in single copy amounts. NOW would NOT be a good time to inquire more since we're about to dash off to Denver and we may find more from a source there.

For that matter, I think rolanni still has an account with amazon that would give us a cut if you buy from a special affiliate link --- we need to get these things updated but haven't had the time -- it *is* on the schedule.

Next, ACE will be reprinting the original books in paperback starting the fall or winter...

and as for the rest of Saltation, I'd like a chance to read the rest of it, too. As it is I have to wait until the letter appear on my screen first

For some reason I am picturing that as a dramliz-type ability. You sit there, and the words appear on the screen...

But yes, I know it's a withoutanet first draft. I'm just the sort of reader who went through seven books in three days when I first encountered them. A chapter a week is near-torture, except that it's an excuse for a reread-fest.

May I mention that people will be able to find the books again, because of reprints, in fall or winter? I often get people to read them and they end up frustrated that they can't get their hands on copics.

Happy birthday, Steve. The Blue Angels are practicing overhead in Seattle right now, just as they were when I was at Clarion West in 1992. Dunno if your last week in Seattle coincided with Blue Angels in the sky and hydroplanes in Lake Washington; some years, the workshop is safely over before the jets get going.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday -- so what is your ideal birthday dinner?
Tops in my book: homemade fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. German chocolate cake for desert.

They are also all available as eBooks from the Baen Webscriptions site at http://www.webscription.net/c-65-liaden-universe-series.aspx -- either individually or as collections (Korval's Legacy + Phase Change covers all of the books). I hope the authors get royalties from that, since I've pointed several people there.

Thanks!

Alas, I don't recall Blue Angels. Ours was a late running event; IIRC I didn't get back to Baltimore until mid-August.
