(That being a load bearing wall it was deemed one of the safer places in the house.) lso a family friend who was in the Yokohama Quake ha din th e adrenaline of the moment snatched two cut glass decanters and for some reason put them in the fireplace in his rush out of the house to safety. When they returned after the subsequent fires were done, all that was left of the house was the fireplace and chimney - with the decanters still in one piece.
