This is a good news post, a slight rewrite of a note posted to the Friends of Liad mailing list last evening,
just before our late, celebratory dinner. It is good to have a good news post, eh?

So yes, here at the Cat farm and Confusion Factory we're greatly pleased to tell you that, through the perseverance of our agent and the goodwill of folks who recently suffered a great loss, the
first ten Liaden Universe(r) novels will be appearing as Baen ebooks
, with
the first volume (Korval's Legacy) currently expected to go on sale within 60 days or so.

The details of timing and packaging are still being worked out by indomitable Toni Weisskopf and Arnold Bailey, but we've already sent the text of the books on and expect that progress will be reasonably swift.

We want to thank all of you who have given us suggestions, both for Baen and for other ebook publishers; as well as those who championed an SRM Publisher expansion into the ebook field. We looked very carefully looked at many options.... and we're sure we will be quite happy to have our Liaden novels available electronically once again, and feel that Baen offers the best combination of access, focus, and compatibility for our needs and the needs of our many ebook-reading fans.

We also want to acknowledge our special thanks to Toni Weisskopf for permitting us to announce this to the Friends of Liad mailing list before the news was available elsewhere.

Oh yes, one more thing -- please feel free to spread the word to every Middlesex village and farm... and to all those SF fans you know, too.

Steve and Sharon

Congrats on the deal. So what title will be first? Or is that more of what gets done first or letting Toni at least have something to announce?

I expect the first title to be a bundle; and the second one as well.

Great news, though I actually think that I have every novel but Crystal Dragon in paper form.

Three questions! :)

Will they be getting the short stories from the chapbooks as well?

What will the DRM situation look like? Baen is proud of avoiding it...

Will they get the non-Liad books, like Sword of Orion, The Tomorrow Log, etc?

(And this is wonderful, wonderful news. I love the Liad stories, I am a fervent customer of Baen's....)

And speaking of more reading material...we can officially announce the
first of two Liaden (R) novel ebook packages by Sharon Lee and Steve
Miller. On February 14th (because we love you guys) we'll be releasing
package number 1 (Korvalís Legacy: It includes the novels Conflict of
Honors, Agent of Change, Carpe Diem, Plan B, and Local Custom). Package
number 2 comes out a month later (Phase Change: it includes Scoutís
Progress, I Dare, Crystal Soldier, Crystal Dragon, and Balance of Trade).
Both packages come with short new introductions from the authors.

Hmm, interesting. Will they be available as individual volumes in easier-to-digest chunks?

Individual books will be 6 months later. I believe there is a discount buying in packages.

Ordinarily the bundle is not one huge file, just a grouping of books. So you can probably buy the bundle and still look at them individually.

Sword of Orion is difficult, we don't own the rights directly. Let's not plan on that anytime soon, sorry.

I expect the other stuff will depend on how well the first set or two goes and what the folk ask for; our agent has forwarded most everything for discussion, AFAIK.
