My mother's kitchen today bears little resemblance to what it was while I was growing up. So, will do the comparison to when I was growing up, not her present kitchen.

I make a mean brussel sprout dish wherein I slice the little beasts thinly, like you would cabbage (in miniature) and then fry in oil (or bacon fat). I add garlic and lemon zest and a little lemon juice and bacon (if I don't use bacon fat). Mmmm. Even dh will eat this. You don't even need a ton of fat.

Oh, darlin', I think I'll just list three things in my mother's kitchen from my childhood, that you will NOT find in mine:
1. Tang
2. Cocoa Puffs
3. Liver

I'm going to have to use my grandmother's kitchen, because my mother's kitchen has and has always had the same sort of weird stuff as my own.

1. Preserved lemons
2. Forty-four kinds of spices (I counted)
3. Dried mushrooms

1. Lard, bacon fat, and more lard!
2. Grass-fed beef from their own steer
