Science Fiction topic of the day ...

Our science fiction topic of the day is ...

Andre Norton

Did you meet her, correspond with her, read her books, have a favorite? Do you still have her books on your everyday bookshelves?

I tore through the Syosset Library's collection of Andre Norton as a kid. Loved them then but I haven't re-read them in ages. Maybe I should!

Too many favorites! I found several in my local library in late elementary school and bought many on the family road trips. I have particular fondness for Maelen and Krip (Moon of Three Rings/Exiles of the Stars), Year of the Unicorn, Forerunner, Crystal Gryphon. Oh, and of course, Star Man's Son! There are whole series I haven't read too--someday!

I have not really thrown out a book for years. I still have her Witch World books, and probably The Zero Stone as well.

I read her compulsively in middle school, loved her sf stuff, wasn't as impressed with her fantasy/ Witch World series though. First book I ever bought with babysitting money was the Jargoon Pard - though I no longer have it. The only two of her books I currently own are Lavender-Green Magic and The Star Guard. Ironically, the day that one of my friends (male) told me that girls aren't supposed to read science fiction - it was one of her Witch World books that I was carrying that triggered teh comment. It was also that last day that we walked home together. I was 14. I considered her talent to be on level with Leonardo da Vinci and H.G. Wells.

Her Space Trader series!

I've read everything I could find. I didn't limit myself to just the sf and fantasy but went looking for her gothics and others.

My favorite I think was Beast Master. It is hard however to just pick one.

I still have all of the books but then I have most of the books I bought over a lot of years. I even know where they are in the bookcases in my rec-room.

Never met her or corresponded with her, but I did read a good bit of her works. Not the Witch World--those never caught me--but the Time Traders books and Beast Master were great favorites. Also I loved some of the historicals: Scarface, the Civil War era Ride Proud, Rebel and Rebel Spurs, and Shadow Hawk fostered a continuing interest in ancient Egypt.

I read all of her I could find and I still have a good bunch of her books in my library.

I still have many of her books and read them when the mood strikes. My favorites tend to vary depending on what I've been reading lately.

We took part in a Baen podcast about Andre Norton -- watch for it around labor Day, if not before.
