Some days I love writing and hate the business of publishing

Dear Friends and Readers...

I have been busily writing much of the morning, and zooming right along at it, until I got stopped in my tracks by a note from a long-time reader who tells me that amazon.com has canceled an order for Mouse and Dragon because, that because of a pricing error  they don't know when they'll have more.

For crying out loud -- has this happened to you? Has your Amazon order for Mouse and Dragon been unilaterally canceled?

Do tell, please, if this has happened to you over this or any other of our forthcoming books.

(version 2)

By the way, IIRC this did happen to one of our Meisha Merlin books and caused much confusion. It may have to do with the dual author listing.

has not happened to me (at least not yet). BTW, you have a typo in the tag for this post. s/abd/and/

fixed I hope

My Amazon.com order of "Mouse and Dragon" is still active and showing a delivery estimate of June 17.

[identity profile] msmemory.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Not here. Mouse And Dragon, and Saltation, are both sitting there in "Open Orders, not yet shipped."

[identity profile] keristor.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Amazon UK are still listing it for me (as of a couple of minutes ago).

[identity profile] jmr-udhgal.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
My pre-order is still listed with a delivery estimate.

However, I would note that I have been receiving LOTS of email messages supposedly from Amazon.com at my work address. I say supposedly because I have never given out my work email to Amazon and NONE of the emails pertain to any of the orders I have ever made. Therefore, I suspect that the email you received was NOT in fact sent from Amazon but by a spammer.

[identity profile] kinzel.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
The email was to a reader, apparently for a specific order. It is possible that it was spammed ... since I don't have access to the reader's original order number.

[identity profile] jmr-udhgal.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, that was what the emails I was receiving looked like. Do you know if they checked the Amazon.com website to see if it said the same thing there (under their order history)?

[identity profile] jmr-udhgal.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Regardless, I hope that the situation gets worked (and doesn't happen to anyone else). It is VERY disconcerting to get emails saying that a book you REALLY REALLY want isn't actually going to be available.

[identity profile] cailleuch.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine is in Open Orders so still good to go. It did say "Welcome to our NEW "Your Orders" page" so this could also be the problem --someone fixed something that was not broken, perhaps?

Mouse and Dragon

[identity profile] chipwyn.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I had not yet pre-ordered Mouse and Dragon or Dragon Variations. I just checked my Amazon wish list and both titles are listed as currently unavailable. Sigh.
If they don't get it sorted out by June I shall purchase the books elsewhere, of course.

Amazon Order

[identity profile] lockley2002.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
My order disappeared and I have been directed to the page in amazon where they list the book and ask for my email so they can contact me and let me know when it comes available.

[identity profile] amm-me.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
If you want it as an e-book, I am about to order the June webscription including Mouse and Dragon and Dragon Variation (and also Ryk Spoor's Threshold). If you want the freebie that Baen generously offers, be the first to reply to this comment with an e-mail address that is NOT already in the Webscription database.

When I checked my open orders, I was instructed that I had to approve the "delayed" anticipated date. They wanted approval by March 7, but I received nothing in the mail from them prior to that date.

I did, of course, approve the "delay" and it seems that their system accepted it, so we shall see.

Ditto:"delivery estimate: June 18, 2010 - June 22, 2010 "

Now that you have jogged my memory - I got an email with the following text on Feb 5th.
Hello from Amazon.com.

We're writing about the order you placed on December 24 2009 (Order# ###-#######-#######). Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below has changed, and we need to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

Sharon Lee, Steve Miller "Mouse and Dragon (Liaden)"
- Hide quoted text -
Estimated arrival date: June 17 2010

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this delay.

Doesn't say anything about needing to approve the delay but I have a later email thanking me for doing so... I think I approved the delay when I went to their website to cancel a duplicated order.

Burton from Montreal

Apparently this issue affects the Amazon America site only. Which is strange since Amazon Canada still have the listing for pre-sell and both sites are on the same server farm.

Does Baen have any comments if they are aware of this issue?

[identity profile] keristor.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't affect the UK site either, which still says: "This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives." (Mine is still pre-booked, due on 17th June.)

[identity profile] gryphonlsb.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
I just checked my open status on amazon and I had an authoprization required next to the Mouse and Dragon and I never received an email saying this

books unavailable

(Anonymous) 2010-03-12 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Amazon says Dragon Variations & Mouse and Dragon are unavailable. I ordered form Books a Million.

Mouse and Dragon - Amazon

(Anonymous) 2010-03-12 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
I had a notice that the date changed from June 3 to June 17 but my order still looks good. Ordered on 1/23/2010.

Message from Amazon - good news

[identity profile] psw456.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Message in my inbox - time of 3:08 AM from Amazon:
Mouse and Dragon now available for pre-order

I'd put myself on the notify list when you noted this problem....

Amazon Order of Mouse an Dragon

[identity profile] leokatz.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It happened with German Amazon.de, too. They cancelled my order because the book was not available. When I went to the "Mouse and Dragon" order page the option was offered to get an e-mail once the book was available again. Two days later I got an e-mail that the book could now be ordered, which I then did.
So I am hopeful everything will be just o.k.

All the best from Berlin

Leokatz

Was OK - now order was cancelled

(Anonymous) 2010-03-15 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Good morning (sort-of!)
When this first posted, I went and checked my Amazon account, and it showed my pre-order as fat and happy, so I agreed with the 'wow, *THAT'S* wierd" crowd and moved on. But now I have received the cancellation email too... Very aggravating!!! Does anyone yet have a clue what happened?
