In an attempt to explain the inexplicable -not for the faint-hearted

Over the last few weeks there have been a number of crises in the publishing industry .. and the public has become more aware of such strange ideas as writers being paid for their work.  Last week Sharon, at her blog Eagles Over the Kennebec , wrote an inspired description of how the publishing system works ... sort of ... called

The Writing Game: Part One, Rich Authors ...  http://rolanni.livejournal.com/529548.html

and that got some comments from people, including a note from author Dave Freer, wherein he mentioned "returns."
OK ... since Sharon is also working on the first draft of Ghost Ship and I had attempted once before to explain this "returns" situation ... I've filed a guest column at Eagles over the Kennebec -- which can be seen here:

The Writing Game: Part Two, Returns

Next you can tackle ... what's the name? ... the change in tax laws that created the revolving inventory plans which means books go on the shelves and get yanked off before anyone can build a following.
