Expect us to be offline in the face of a change to a new cable modem and other such.

Cross fingers. Last time we got a new modem I think we needed to trade it in twice more for one that worked. Note that Rolanni will also be affected by this.

Are you going for more bandwidth? Moving from dial-up to my piddly DSL 1.5 download spoiled me terribly. I hate to think how I'd react to 6 to 8 megs - I'd probably just effervesce away...

Actually, we've been off dial-up for years. We're going to digital (cable) phone service; I think that kicks up the bandwidth another notch. The last time we ran the numbers it looked like we'd save several hundred dollars a year that way, and then the cable company came in with a deal cutting an extra so much off the first year and given the general economy we just thought it was time.


DSL is not an option here at the catfarm -- we're about 5 miles out of range, as I understand it.

Very cool.

As for DSL, it's not bad, but you can potentially get more from cable in our town - as long as you're upstream. I've been contemplating a changeover, but Verizon is laying fiber around town as we speak. I'm torn...
