Are we vegetarians? Not precisely.

On the other hand... a few years ago my physician thought it might be a good idea to put me on a blood-pressure lowering drug for the rest of my life, which I thought was a pretty bad plan.

We changed our diet to include a lot more soy, and a lot less salt. We carefully watch sodium and cholesterol in prepared foods (Gah, so you see a canned soup item offering 2.5 servings and each serving is supposed to have 50 percent of your daily sodium. But there's two of you, and you'd finish the can, after all... and if you count sodium in other items *in the same meal* you could come up with having 100 percent of your daily salt allowance with lunch...).

We still eat real pizza from time to time and we still have hot dogs from time to time, and I still get my quiche in, too, and we'll have turkey for Thanksgiving, I suspect. On the other hand we eat soy sausage and soy bacon and I'm trying to decide if I'm up to the task of creating a soy-based scrapple substitute, since I do still manage to get scrapple in a couple times a year.
