NASFIC and Boskone

The world series starts tonight. Suprise. Me, I hope Detroit wins.

Meanwhile I've been checking and yes, we have confirmed room reservations for Boskone and for NASFIC. Still not sure if we're taking the train to NASFIC or not; much depends on the state of gas price next year, I guess.

Also, according to the NASFIC page... the con hotel is booked and almost all of the nearby hotels are booked up or on the verge of being booked up. If you plan on staying close by, now's the time to get that reservation in.

Thanks for the heads up re NASFIC hotels! I can't believe they're almost all gone already. But then again, not so far off...

I suspect some WorldCon regulars forget that any NASFIC that's connected with (or a "special editon" of a local or regional convention) is likely to have "the local regulars" along with the "I can't do WorldCon" crowd... and the locals already know which hotels they want to be in.

I used my Delorme Street Atlas USA (http://delorme.com/) to check the locations of the the hotels I was most interested in; if the one I got (within sight distance if not great walking distance on a hot summer day)hadn't still had an opening I had another in mind 4.32 miles away... By the way, I must profess to a real admiration for the Delorme folks. They've grown a local Maine company into a worldclass operation, become something of a landmark with Eartha (http://www.delorme.com/about/eartha.aspx) and their in-house map store. Also, we both use their Street Atlas maps and their Topo map in our writing -- the Topo did some yeoman work in several stories set places we've only been to in our imagination. The Street Atlas routed us all the way to the hotel parking lots for our drive to cons Like DragonCon last year and TorCon a couple years back.... we also carry Delorme paper Gazetteers for Maine in the car at all times.

Damn if I'm vending I like to be in the host hotel. Still not sure if I will do NASFIC due to some possible personal stuff that might keep me closer to home next year.
